Event Details
Nolan Shulman leads product at DraftKings, in a category where regulators, policy, and real money shape every decision before a single feature ships. On Thursday, October 1 he's sitting down with us to talk about the job from that seat: the calls that matter, the tradeoffs with no clean answer, and how you get better at reading them.
We'll start with the career arc. How you move from individual contributor into leadership, what changes about the way you spend a week, and which skills start carrying real weight the further up you go.
Then we get into the harder material, the situations product leaders handle constantly and almost never discuss in public. Regulatory limits you can't design around. Two stakeholders who are both right. A decision that lands on real people whichever way you call it. How do you work through those? And what do you actually say to your team, your leadership, your board?
What you'll take away
- A concrete picture of how a VP of Product spends their time, and which parts of the craft stopped being their job on the way up.
- Language for raising a regulatory, policy, or ethical constraint with executives without landing as the person who says no.
- How Nolan approaches a decision with no right answer, and the questions he asks before anyone reaches for a framework.
- A read on which skills to start building now for the level above the one you're at.
- An evening with product people from across the GTA who are working through versions of the same problems.
This is the first session of TPMA's Leadership Spotlight series: one senior product leader, in conversation, on what the work really looks like at their level. We've wanted to run this for a long time!
