Event Details

In April 2025, Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke published an internal memo that became one of the most discussed documents in the tech industry. The message was unambiguous: "Reflexive AI usage is now a baseline expectation at Shopify." Teams would need to demonstrate why a job couldn't be done by AI before requesting headcount. Lütke framed it not as a policy tweak but as a fundamental shift; "stagnation is slow-motion failure. If you're not climbing, you're sliding."

Nearly a year after the letter, TPMA wanted to find out what the impact has been, and we're bringing the conversation to you.

On March 30th, Keith Dell, Senior Staff Product Manager at Shopify, will give us something the headlines couldn't: a candid, first-person account of what that mandate actually looks like from inside a product team. Not the press release version. The real one.

Keith will speak to what's changed and what hasn't; how AI has been integrated into the daily fabric of product work at Shopify, what it has shifted in terms of how PMs think about scope, velocity, and prioritization, and where the friction still lives. He'll address the questions most product managers are quietly carrying: What does it fell like to work under a directive like that? Has it made the work better? What does it mean for the craft of product management when AI is no longer optional?

This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from someone navigating one of the boldest AI mandates in the industry, not in theory, but in practice.
